A novel blood test that appears to identify the earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease is being developed by scientists.

They shone infrared lights at white blood cells of 70 people, to determine their levels of a protein linked to the brain disease, called amyloid beta.

Dementia experts are particularly keen to develop a blood test to spot the disease early because this would enable those with it to take drugs, that already exist, proven to slow its progress.
