Panel Set to Review Cause of Child's Death

Added On : 27th December 2012

JEDDAH — The case of Salim, the child who allegedly died due to an excessive blood transfusion, has taken new twists with the Jeddah Health Directorate setting up a committee to review the case.

The accused doctor has also returned to Jeddah and was questioned about the circumstances of the case, while the medical team who were in attendance has been banned from traveling.

The health directorate said a committee was formed to review the case and it will decide if the child's death was due to malpractice.

The health directorate emphasized that there are certain procedures that apply to all hospitals and medical entities. If a doctor is at fault, he/she is dealt with individually, and is penalized according to the set procedures.

If a hospital or a medical entity is at fault by employing non-licensed staff, or committing technical mistakes, it will bear the consequences.

The Shariah health commission issues all decisions regarding medical mistakes. It is a separate entity, and does not belong to the health directorate.

Salim's father hopes for a speedy investigation and conclusion to the case.
