A handicapped man in a Madinah rehabilitation center died Tuesday, bringing the total number of inmates who died at the center in a year to eight. This was confirmed by Ibrahim Al-Haliyu, director of the center.
Al-Haliyu refused to give details saying he was not authorized to talk to the media. "You can receive complete information on the incident from the Ministry of Social Affairs," Okaz Arabic daily quoted Al-Haliyu as saying.
The handicapped man reportedly died after swallowing a glove, which he had found on the dining table while taking food. He died from suffocation and doctors could not save his life, although he was taken to hospital soon after the incident.
According to informed sources, six inmates at the center had died earlier after suffering from chronic diseases, the paper said. The seventh inmate died after he sneaked out of the center and fell in a sewage tank.
