Alzheimer’s Association Awards 5 Story Writers

RIYADH: The Saudi Alzheimer’s Disease Association (SADA) introduced a story writing competition entitled “Alzheimer’s patient in our house” at five schools in Riyadh. Recently, the five prize-winning writers were named, with Ahmad Al-Jarbooa from Najd School winning the first prize.The competition, organized by a team of volunteers, took place on the International Day for Volunteering and was enthusiastically received by students. More than 30 stories were delivered to the association.
“We pay great deal of attention to volunteer work, and we encourage all our 100 volunteers to be a part of the initiatives,” SADA Vice President Princess Madawi bint Mohammad said.
Princess Madawi also pointed out that the competition aimed at building social awareness of the disease, and at the same time discover the skills of the new generation. “Alzheimer’s now attracts wide international attention. Tying the new generation to a social responsibility in their society, and involving them in the society’s needs and issues is essential for them,” said Princess Madawi. She added that Alzheimer’s is a disease that requires cooperation of all sectors of society, and “that is what the SADA is aiming for through its strategic partnership.”
SADA honored the winning stories at the associationÂ’s location, indicating that all the winning stories would be included in a booklet along with patient service providerÂ’s stories to shed more light on the disease.
The five prize winning writers (in this order) were Ahmad Al-Jarbooa from Najd School; Sara Al-Shiekh from Al Tarbiah Al-Islamiah School; Abdullah Sambawi from Riyadh Najd School; Duha Al-Husaini from Riyadh School; and Saud Nawwaf from Al-Faisal School.
