Doctors in Malpractice Case Barred from Leaving Kingdom

JEDDAH — The Jeddah Health Affairs has instructed a hospital here to prevent attempts to flee the country by two of its expatriate doctors who were accused of medical malpractice.

The order was issued in response to a citizen’s complaint against the hospital.

Dr. Sami Badawood, Director of Jeddah Health Affairs, has instructed a committee to review the case, Al-Watan daily reported Tuesday.

Ahmad Al-Amoudi accused a well-known private hospital in Jeddah of causing the death of his mother after her intestines were allegedly punctured during an operation to remove a tumor.

Al-Amoudi, who plans to take legal action against the hospital, claimed the puncture caused body waste to spread throughout her body and her eventual death.

“My mother was diagnosed with a very small tumor in her uterus and a surgeon recommended that it be removed. Two days after the operation, the room was filled with a foul smell. When I asked doctors and the nursing staff about it, they did not properly answer my question,” he said.

“She eventually stopped eating and her stomach was swollen. She then began vomiting waste,” he added.
When a surgeon was notified of his mother’s condition, he quickly operated on her and discovered the reason behind her deteriorating condition. She was admitted to the intensive care unit after the operation but succumbed to her injuries.
