Patients' Rights Not a Matter of Choice, Conference Told
RIYADH The 2nd patient relations symposium opened at InterContinental Hotel here Saturday with the participation of more than 220 healthcare officials and employees.
Over 20 experts from the Kingdom, France, Spain, Australia, the US and GCC countries will speak at the two-day symposium.
Dr. Abdullah Bin Hamad Bin Zar'ah, Chairman of the Symposium and the Executive Director of Clinical Affairs at Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City in Riyadh, said the majority of the participants were from the Ministry of Health hospitals.

Ziad Al-Memish, undersecretary to the Ministry of Health for Public Health read out Al-Rabeeah's message at the inauguration of the "Arab AIDS Initiative", held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh on Sunday.
Al-Memish said that a vulnerable group is being affected due to unhealthy social behavior. Under these circumstances, the minister stressed the importance of an Arab strategy to fight this disease, which could otherwise, take a serious toll on our communities.
On behalf of the health minister, Al-Memish opened a new website: www.nap.sa.com and launched a national strategy to fight AIDS in the Kingdom. He also urged the delegates to form a national strategy in their respective countries to fight the disease. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Arab League and the joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

The High Commission for Riyadh Development (HCRD) has begun applying the e-program for the management system of hospital beds, which will help in monitoring the situation of beds in emergency wards and their readiness to receive emergency cases in the city.
The system provides information and statistics on a daily basis about vacant beds and the time patients stay in the hospital as well as the chances of patients who are waiting to find a vacant bed in urgent and normal cases.

JEDDAH The father of a child who died from a medical error committed by a doctor working for Erfan and Bagedo Hospital said he had no hand in the hospital's closure.
Yusuf Abdul Latif Jameel said the hospital was closed down because of a Ministry of Health decision, not because he was rich.
He added that he planned to file a lawsuit against the hospital before it was shut down.
The Ministry of Health had already made it clear to the hospital's owners that the ministry would take tough measures against the hospital if it repeated the same mistake that killed Dr. Tariq Al-Jehani, Jameel said.

Over 25 discharged patients stranded outside Madinah hospital
MADINAH Several health specialists in Madinah have urged authorities to establish a home for the mentally-ill who have been abandoned by their families.
They underlined the need for providing asylum and protection to patients who were discharged from the local mental health hospital but have nowhere to go.
The hospital is not in a position to readmit them due to a lack of space, according to a report in Al-Madinah newspaper.
